As with many insect species, the life of a dragonfly is divided into two phases: the juvenile, which is the aquatic larval state, and the adult, in which they fly in the air, above the water.<\/p>\n
The transition between the juvenile and adult phases is the most dangerous period in a dragonfly’s life. This metamorphosis occurs out of the water, still on land, and lasts for a few hours. The animal remains motionless on a plant branch or on the deck’s wood, especially if its infancy was spent in a biological pond. After shedding its last chitinous skin from the larval stage, known as the exuvia, the dragonfly extends its wings by filling channels comparable to arteries. Everything needs to dry to transform into an exoskeleton suitable for hunting flights, territory defense, and mating.<\/p>\n
