The modest Lesser Skullcap plant is emblematic of the critical, often small, species used as marginal planting in our biological swimming pools. Biodiversity requires a wide and varied offering of species, which collectively provide structure, sustenance, and shade for the swimming environment. This plant is obscure and difficult to source in standard aquatic nurseries. Yet, we include it because we are dedicated to cultivating the full range of species found in Portuguese wetlands. These native ecosystems serve as the living blueprints for our biological pool designs, ensuring we emulate nature as closely as possible. Our approach is not to clean the water, but to enable nature to do so. Nature’s efficiency is maximized when we faithfully reproduce the local ecological conditions intended for a specific regional climate.
