Recently, and even before the summer holidays, new tourism with biological pool opened to the public. Quinta do Carrascal Rural Resort, located near Arrouquelas, municipality of Rio Maior, has agricultural and forestry traditions, especially in production of olives, pine cones and wood. Extensive urban and agricultural rehabilitation, preserving the property’s historical heritage, gave it a new life, as high-quality rural tourism. Now, Quinta do Carrascal has 14 elegant suites and a two-bedroom holiday apartment with a biological pool, and as well spaces for corporate and private events. The idea is to connect country houses with agritourism and active tourism, also promoting educational, leisure and sporting activities in this peaceful, rural environment, an innovative concept for sustainable development in the region.

And there, the biological pool, as an environmentally friendly equipment and bio-based solution, fits well. At first glance, the biological pool seems almost like a conventional one, but it’s not! The old pool basin was recovered and transformed into a biologically treated pool, largely taking advantage of the existing structure. The biological pool that was born in this place has an infinity overflow that flows into a small waterfall, two alternative entrances and a 20 meter swimming lane. There is also a large sun lounger to relax in the water and enjoy the view over the large property. Two areas with plants, one of them at a lower level, and an external biological filter contributes to biological water treatment.
