One might think that ducks in the biological pool are as welcome as many other living beings. But the opposite is the case! Ducks have to be scared away from the first moment they appear. Why? – The organic load they leave in the biological pool is simply unbearable. The organic matter that leaves a single duck daily is chemically equivalent to the same load as that of three adult people. This drastic example illustrates very well that biological pools are no place for ducks.

Along with the problem of duck waste comes another even more problematic one: salmonella. Ducks often carry salmonella in the water and, if swallowed in large quantities by people, they could cause serious health problems. After all, there are many reasons why ducks cannot be accepted in biological pools.

Fortunately, in Portugal, wild ducks are not very abundant and, thus, as visitors to biological pools are a great exception.
