One of the most persistent myths about natural swimming pools is that of percentages. “Internet experts” compete with each other, indicating percentages relating the sizes of the bathing zone and the regeneration area with plants in a biological pool. Anyone who talks like this still hasn’t understood that this relationship in no way characterizes a natural swimming pool.
Yes, there is an area for people to bathe and a plant zone… almost always. Because there are also natural swimming pools without a plant zone, but this does not mean that these are better than others, where the relationship between the two zones is perhaps 3/1 in favor of the plant zone.
Anyone designing a natural swimming pool has to take many factors into account. For example, the number of bathers on a hot summer day, the chemical composition of the filling water and, most importantly, which treatment modules are most suitable for a particular case. There are many treatment modules. The best known is the plant zone. But even within this, various types of biological treatment come together, for example, a deep zone with submerged plants, a bank with plants, a reed bed, a rush bed or even a wall with plants, saturated with dripping water. Not forgetting the living organisms that colonize the water volume and play an important role in in-situ biological filtration. And also the different types of biological filters, with or without plants, with horizontal or vertical water flow, flooded or dry, or only periodically flooded. And this list of biological modules is not yet complete.
Seen this way, the question about the percentage is obsolete.
