The internet is full of pages and groups offering countless pieces of advice. Anyone looking for information about natural swimming pools has surely come across them. And the advice doesn’t stop there.

Since the first natural pool was built, more than 30 years ago, a new branch of construction began to establish itself: biological swimming pools. The main concern, from the beginning, was to create ecosystems that guarantee a permanent supply of quality bathing water without endangering the health of its users. A highly complex task!

Since then, a professional industry has been established, organizing biannual international congresses, training qualified technical personnel in all aspects of construction, complexity, and management of a biological swimming pool, and supporting scientific research on hygiene and biological filtration. There are technical books and many scientific publications on relevant topics to justify the work. Even biological swimming pools for public use are a reality; hundreds already exist in Europe.

In this context, the level of advice from so-called “consultants” on the internet is far from the professional technical level established internationally and leaves much to be desired. So: DIY? Seriously?

Those who suffer are the ones who were deceived and have to pay again for the necessary repairs. These aren’t always possible. For us, as experienced professional technicians in the field, it’s a sad situation. Deceived customers have little trust but are full of gratitude after the swimming pond project’s well done overhaul.
