Enclosing the water feature of a biological pool can be a temporary solution for those with children who don’t know yet how to swim. The type and layout of the structure are fundamental for the safe functioning of the enclosure and to ensure an acceptable aesthetic appearance.
First of all, the fence itself must be functional. It must be of adequate height, and the chosen material should not be easy to cross—for example, it should be impossible to climb. One solution could be glass panels, but these are expensive and pose a danger to birds attracted to the water feature. A better alternative is the use of steel cables between posts fixed to the ground or deck. The cables do not obstruct the view and are very unstable for anyone trying to climb them. It is important that the distance between the cables is no greater than 12 cm.
It is advisable that this structure, designed for a few months or years, be removable without great difficulty, especially since all children eventually learn to swim—and knowing how to swim is, in long term, the best protection for the youngest members of the family.
