As far as we know, it’s really something new in the world: an equipment that allows a lateral view to the zone of the plants of a biological swimming pool! What in the photo appears to be an aquarium is actually a window that allows you to observe the underwater life in the area of purification by plants.
This novelty is part of the so called observatory of the biological swimming pool of tourist use in the Herdade dos Adães near Campo Maior, which presents a faithful and natural reproduction of an aquatic ecosystem. It is inserted in a tourism surrounded by stone oak groves, which has 8 bungalows, 3 suites and a park of caravans. The biological pool offers a bath area of 223 m2, the remaining plant area occupies 241 m2. In this project, the zone of plants is visitable without watering, for who uses the stairs that connect to a totally dark space in the bottom floor. The only light that enters this basement painted in black is the daylight penetrating through the window of the observatory.
Here you have a spectacular view of the submerged world! We first look at the underwater jungle of several species of macrophytes that extends into the deep zone of this biological pool. Closer we have already discovered how plants oxygenate water, because small bubbles of air rise like pearls in the water. It is not uncommon, on the contrary, it is frequent, to observe there newts that pass through the plants on the other side of the glass and lean with their small paws in the window to observe us! An information plate installed on the window sill helps to identify the findings. Thus, the observatory serves not only for the animation of the guests of the tourism, but serves as an important piece in the environmental education of pupils and students who visit the Center for Interpretation of Nature and Biodiversity of the Herdade dos Adães.
The project of the observatory as the whole biological swimming pool for tourist use in Herdade dos Adães are a project of Bio Piscinas Lda., designed by the designers Claudia and Udo Schwarzer, grateful for the work and unique experience, prepared for Naturdelta Lda. part of the DELTA Cafés group.
