The EU-funded PONDERFUL project is investigating how ponds (natural and artificial) can be used as nature-based solution for climate change. The project is evaluating the interaction and feedback between biodiversity, ecosystem services and climate.

One knows that low nutrient ponds like natural swimming pools are harvesting CO2 due to their high amount of water plants, while neglected ponds with high nutrient load are emitting greenhouse gases and thus are accelerating the global warming.
