Aquatic plants are valuable indicators, for example for water quality. They also constitute a rare natural heritage, since wetlands are part of the most threatened habitats in the world, not just in Portugal. Knowledge about aquatic plants is an important basis for biological pool designers. It is knowledge also sought after by private and public entities for hydrobotanical surveys, that is, species and aquatic vegetation, in natural environments for conservation reasons. The work to survey aquatic plants requires visits to the site at different times of the year, the spring campaign took place last May. This time including a day with a large team, including professional divers, and well equipped with diving bottles, dry suits and other technical equipment. First, a depth survey took place with a ROV, an underwater robot, to prepare the work of professional divers to explore the presence of species at depth in a large lake. Other experts used SUP Stand-up-paddle and kayak, to explore areas of the water surface with submerged vegetation, not accessible from the banks. A big thank you to SHB, Lda. for providing equipment and team experts for a day of work outside the usual context. An interesting experience, to prove the versatility of the biological pools team!
